Managed IT Services FAQ

Managed IT Services.

Frequently Asked Questions.

  • What is involved in the onboarding process?

The onboarding process is crucial for transitioning you from the existing solution to MicrotechDPS’s Managed Services. During this process,  our service team conducts an initial assessment of your environment and configures the tools required for accessibility to allow remote management and monitoring while helping you manage the transition from your existing provider. Onboarding typically takes 1 - 4 weeks.

  • What is an SLA?

SLA stands for Service Level Agreement. In your agreement, we commit to a response time to deliver our service based on the priority level a particular incident or request falls within.

We prioritize based on IMPACT and SEVERITY of an incident. SLAs are agreed upon for each client, ensuring our service team can prioritize your business when it needs it most.

  • What is Patch Management?

Patch management is the process of assessing, distributing and applying updates, predominantly focused on correcting errors or ‘bugs’ in the device.

  • What is the difference between Proactive and Reactive Support?

Proactive Support defines tasks carried out to detect problems before they occur. As an example, daily checks and weekly/monthly preventative maintenance tasks. Reactive Support defines customer-initiated incidents and the remediation tasks to resolve.

As a Managed Service Provider, Proactive Support is a large component of our service delivery and a key advantage to engaging an MSP.

  • I don’t need some of the inclusions. Are your services able to be tailored to my needs?

Yes. We understand businesses differ in their needs and our team of consultants are here to work with you to develop a strategy that will suit your business.

  • Who will I be working with?

An Account Manager will be working with you at the strategic level throughout the entire relationship and will be working alongside you in your future technology planning, assisting with contractual and commercial requirements and ensuring your needs are met by our team.

Accounts are also assigned a Lead Technical Engineer who plays a pivotal role in service delivery. They are responsible for SLA management/compliance, issue & escalation management, process improvement, quality management, service request management and reporting.

  • We already have an internal IT team. Can you still provide support?

Yes. Because our Managed Service package can be customised, we can offer services that complement your current IT environment.

MicrotechDPS are now delivering Dedicated Internet Access (DIA).

No other innovation in the last 30 years has changed the way in which we do business as much as our connection to the world wide web. Everything we do now, from online meetings to cloud-based storage systems, is done over the Internet. We rely upon it and our ability to use it, every second of every day.

Thankfully, the Internet has evolved over time with our growing business needs. From the painfully slow ADSL connections of old, through to super-fast fibre connections we enjoy today.

High performing and scalable Internet solutions have been developed for many years now, and such connections are designed with businesses in mind to enable them to run at the production level they need. Due to affordability and availability, these connections have previously been exclusive to large businesses and global enterprises.

MicrotechDPS are proud to announce the launch of their Dedicated Internet Access product. A fully managed service designed for business, DIA provides a high performing, uncontended connection. The best part? This service is able to be delivered to businesses of any scale, across both regional and metro areas. We’ve put together a short video covering the main benefits of the service, watch it here.

Dedicated Internet Access FAQ

Dedicated Internet Access.

Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Is my business address eligible for this connection?

As a first step, we determine if there is existing infrastructure locally that will support this connection for your business. This is an obligation free check our consultants can complete with you over the phone.

  • What is a shared connection?

Most residential and business broadband connections are classified as a shared connection. Put simply, a shared connection means that the bandwidth is split between other users and devices that access the same connection. That’s why your internet can become slow at certain times of the day, referred to as ‘peak usage times’. A dedicated internet connection such as our DIA product means you have your own amount of bandwidth to use which won’t be affected by users outside of your business.

  • How do I know what service speed my business needs?

Our speed options range from 100Mbps to 10Gbps. The speed you need is dependent on factors such as how much your business depends on cloud services and video chat, as well as how many employees are using devices day-to-day. As a first look, we can determine the speed your business is currently receiving as an indicator of what you need going forward. It’s important to remember that DIA delivers the speed you pay for, unlike shared networks.

  • How much data is available through DIA plans?

Our connections provide unlimited data. The only variation is your speed requirement.

  • How do I access support for this service?

Each customer has access to their own portal where we record and manage all reported issues and keep you informed of planned maintenance events. As part of this managed service, we provide round-the-clock monitoring and our technical team provide support during core business hours as well as on-call support.

  • I’m currently with another provider. Can I switch?

There is around a 60-day process to get your business up and running on our network. We can start the process at around 3 months out from your contract expiry so that your new connection will be ready to roll over once your current service is finished. Depending on your needs, you may also consider running a redundant connection.

  • What is a redundant connection?

Put simply, a redundant internet connection is a link to the internet that activates when your main internet connection fails. Some businesses may choose to retain their old connection as a backup to further mitigate the risk of outages.

Dedicated Internet Access

Your Dedicated Internet Access (DIA).

A fast and reliable Internet connection is now more accessible than you think.

In a recent review of our IT systems, MicrotechDPS investigated our persistent and frustrating networking issues which were disrupting our daily operations. The team at MDPS proposed connecting our business with their Dedicated Internet Access service paired with their SD-WAN solution. Since installation in September 2021, we are pleased to say we've experienced a consistent network speed without any downtime. MDPS monitors the connection round-the-clock and reports any issues that could impact our operations.

We value the MDPS commitment to fully understanding the diverse business divisions within our significant for-purpose Social Enterprise. Their willingness to regularly analyse and review our existing process, present practical solutions, and allow time for considered decisions are all key pillars in our strong and trusted partnership. We now have peace of mind that our business will stay online, and our IT team can focus on daily operations and other improvements to our business.
